The Olive Young flagship in Myeongdong is open every day from 10:00 to 22:30, and the register is where a visit gets decided: if it carries a Tax Refund sign, a refund can come off the price on the spot when the payment is at least ₩15,000 and under ₩1,000,000, and anything outside that range is claimed later at a booth or the airport. Visit Seoul lists the store at 53 Myeongdong-gil in Jung-gu, 356 meters from Exit 8 of Myeongdong Station on Line 4.

Hours, Address and Fourteen Zones
Visit Seoul describes the Myeongdong store as the country’s largest beauty shop, divided into 14 themed zones where shoppers can try items before choosing. The page gives the hours as 10:00 to 22:30 every day and names Exit 8 of Myeongdong Station, 356 meters away, as the nearest way in; it also gives the store’s phone number as 1577-4887 and lists its website as Korean only. At an ordinary walking pace that is about five minutes, so the subway is the sensible approach, and the late closing time means the store works after dinner as well as before it.
Myeongdong is also the stop for the Namsan cable car. Visit Seoul lists that cable car station 571 meters from Exit 4 of the same station, which is why the Namsan cable car fares and hours and this store fit into one evening on the same subway line, and the cable car’s posted hours run to 23:00. If both are on the list, the cable car goes first and the shop last, so that a bag of purchases is not carried up a mountain.
Choosing Categories Before Brands
The same Visit Seoul page names three zones as the popular ones: the perfume bar, the beauty care zone and the body care zone, and says customers can find imported products and luxury perfumes there. The page does not rank individual products, and a list of brand names would age faster than the shelves do, so what carries over from one visit to the next is a decision about categories.
A budget for each category
Fourteen zones is more floor than a first lap can cover with a basket in hand. A workable order is to set an amount for each category before going in, for example skincare, body care and fragrance, and to spend inside those amounts. The budget also shows in advance how the refund will work, because the refund limits apply to each payment: a basket that stays well under ₩1,000,000 can use the on-the-spot route, and one that does not needs a different plan.
The three popular zones give the lap a natural order. Start at the perfume bar if fragrance is on the list, since trying a scent is the whole point of that category, then move to beauty care and finish with body care. Zone locations inside the building are not given on the page, so spend the first few minutes finding the signs before filling a basket.

Three Ways to Get the Tax Back
The Korea Tourism Organization’s page on duty free and tax refunds separates an immediate refund, taken off at the register, from a regular refund claimed later. Both need a shop with a Tax Refund or Tax Free sign, a purchase of at least ₩15,000, goods that are new, unopened and unused, departure from Korea within three months of buying and, for non-Korean citizens, a stay of under six months. At checkout the passport is shown to the cashier and the refund is requested out loud. The limits differ by route:
- Immediate refund at a certified shop: each payment at least ₩15,000 but under ₩1,000,000, and no more than ₩5,000,000 spent over the whole trip. Nothing is claimed afterward.
- Airport or port terminal: no purchase amount limit during the stay. The claim is made at a refund counter or kiosk, or on the receipt dropped in a box when the counter is closed, and the money returns to an international credit card, Alipay or WeChat Pay within one to two months.
- Downtown refund booth: up to ₩6,000,000 per receipt, paid by card or in cash, but each booth handles only its own company’s receipts, and the refund still has to be reported to customs at the airport on departure.
Visit Seoul’s page for the flagship does not say which of these the store offers, so the sign at the register is the only reliable test. For a basket of one or two receipts under the cap, the immediate route is the least paperwork. A larger haul belongs on the airport route, which is built for it.
Two details help at the register. The KTO page says certified shops carry a mark from a refund operator, naming Global Blue, GLOBAL TAX FREE, Easy Tax Refund and CubeRefund, with Tax Free or Tax Refund written on the sign or the receipt. And it keeps this system apart from duty-free shopping, where the shelf price already leaves out value-added tax and individual consumption tax; in a refund shop the shelf price includes both, which is why the refund exists.
At Incheon the page lists refund counters in Terminal 1 on the third floor in the duty-free zone near Gate 28, and kiosks on the third-floor concourse near the central pharmacy. In Terminal 2 the counters are at check-in counters G and F on the third floor and in the duty-free zone near Gate 253. It adds that locations can change, so a quick look at the airport signs on arrival is part of the plan.

Mistakes at the Counter and Before the Gate
Packing the goods before the customs stop. The airport procedure on the same KTO page has the traveler show the purchases and receipts to a customs officer for an export approval stamp, and only then drop off baggage at the oversized baggage counter. A suitcase already sealed and handed over leaves nothing to show. The page’s own FAQ puts the sequence plainly: check in, but hold on to the baggage for now. Keep the cosmetics in a bag that opens easily.
Assuming the on-the-spot refund covers everything. A single payment of ₩1,000,000 or more, or a trip total above ₩5,000,000, falls outside it. The airport route has no purchase limit during the stay, so the receipts simply wait for it. Opening or using the products before that stop is the other way to lose the refund, since the goods must be new, unopened and unused.
Looking for K-pop goods in a beauty store. The flagship is a cosmetics and lifestyle shop. For photocards and lightsticks, the KTO’s fan-culture feature lists the K-MECCA Myeongdong flagship in the Huiseong NH Building on Myeongdong 8na-gil, open daily from 10:00 to 23:00, and the other fan stops are sorted by district in planning a K-pop fan trip.
