Building Your Myeongdong One Day Itinerary
Two subway hubs bracket this route: Myeongdong Station on Line 4 and City Hall Station on Lines 1 and 2, a short walk apart. The plan runs west to east and low to high — an early lunch near City Hall, an afternoon climb up Namsan for the view, an early-evening show back down in Myeongdong, and a proper dinner to finish. Almost all of it is walkable, with only the uphill stretch to the cable car asking anything of your legs. Lunch: Noodles, or Something Heartier
Start with an early lunch before the noon office rush. Yurimmyeon, a handmade-noodle house in the City Hall area, is exactly the kind of place with a queue at 12:15 and none at all if you arrive before 11:30 or after 1:30. Handmade dough, decades-deep broth, no fuss. If you would rather eat seafood the way Seoul office workers do, Jinjuhoegwan nearby leans on whatever is freshest that day — ask what is good (oneul mwoga joayo?) and let the answer be your order. Either way, keep it light; you have a full day of eating ahead.
Afternoon: Namsan Cable Car & N Seoul Tower
From Myeongdong, it is about a ten-minute uphill walk from Exit 4 to the cable-car boarding station, and then a short, scenic ride to the base of N Seoul Tower. Up top you get the love-lock fences, the observation deck and a full panorama of the city — cheesy, beloved and genuinely worth it. The insider move is to ride up but walk the northern path back down toward Myeongdong at dusk, so the city lights come on around you as you descend. Early Evening: The NANTA Show
Back down in Myeongdong, catch an early NANTA performance — the non-verbal kitchen-percussion show that has been running since 1997, all drumming, knife-work and flying cabbage with zero language barrier. Performances usually run around 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., so the earlier slot fits neatly before dinner. Front-row guests get pulled on stage (and splashed), so if you would rather stay dry, aim for rows five to eight — close enough to feel it, far enough to keep your shirt clean. Dinner: Jokbal, and a Late Option
Now eat properly. Manjokohyangjokbal, near City Hall, does slow-braised pork trotters (jokbal) that locals order by the table rather than the plate. The ritual: wrap a slice of the glossy meat in a perilla leaf with garlic and a dab of salted-shrimp sauce, and finish the meal with a bowl of cold makguksu noodles.
